The Chauffeured Transportation Association of New Jersey (originally the Private Livery Association of New Jersey) was formed in June 1998. The organization’s roots extend back to its two original chapters: North Jersey Limousine Association (NJLA) and South Jersey Limousine Association (SJLA). In 2007 the two groups officially merged into one entity: CTANJ.
The statewide coalition first was formed when SJLA members assembled a task force to seek fairer interstate commerce laws. Knowing any outcomes of this pursuit would affect their operations in New York, interest of NJLA members took hold. Ultimately, efforts of the combined organization prompted the drafting of an interstate commerce bill (H.R. 2546,107th Cong.) that ultimately became the Real Interstate Driver’s Equity Act. The RIDE Act, which became the legislation’s popular name, received bipartisan approval by the U.S. Congress in November 2002. As such, the law extends beyond New Jersey to all chauffeured transportation companies throughout the country and prohibits states or any political subdivision, other than the home licensing state, from requiring a fee or other payment requirement “on account of” the fact that a vehicle is providing pre-arranged ground transportation service.

MEMBER EVENTS
The top benefit of Chauffeured Transportation Association of New Jersey membership is being provided multiple opportunities to get to know your fellow members. This is why CTANJ organizes and hosts many occasions each year, such as lunch meetings (like the one taking place at 12 PM today in Whippany), a dinner/auction, a golf outing and the yearly holiday party, for you to do just that.
The best favor you can do for yourself is attending every event possible… and then, once there, introducing yourself to your fellow CTANJ members and pursuing those introductions. “Working the opportunity” will make all the (positive!) difference to your own standing in the industry and to your company’s business development.
Member Communications
As a CTANJ member, you receive the twice monthly CTANJ E-News with the latest industry intelligence and need-to-know CTANJ information. You also get every issue of the periodic CTANJ E-Flash communication that provides up-to-the-minute reporting as needed and deemed critical to chauffeured transportation operations.
Discount/Special Offer Program
Many Chauffeured Transportation Association of New Jersey supplier members extend discounts and/or special offers to the group’s operator and affiliate members. See the "Members Area" at CTANJ.org for the complete lineup
Webinar Presentations
In 2024 the Chauffeured Transportation Association of New Jersey launched its webinar program to deliver easy-access industry education to all members. Titled “Current Industry Insurance Crisis” and the “Five Biggest Mistakes of a Training Program,” the first two programs were but a start. Additional webinars are planned for 2025…all exclusive and free-of-charge to members.
Legislative/Lobbying Representation
The Chauffeured Transportation Association of New Jersey Legislative Committee works with the Princeton Public Affairs Group, CTANJ’s lobbying firm, on many issues that impact chauffeured transportation. Currently, the focus is on Manhattan’s congestion pricing fees, the emission standards laws and the proliferation of unlicensed operators. Reports on their outcomes are featured in CTANJ E-News and CTANJ E-Flash.
ASK CTANJ is a program that has been designed to support CTANJ operator members, especially those who are new or who have recently entered the ground transportation industry.
